Children's Formation
Ages 3 - 12
As Jesus and his disciples were traveling around Galilee, they
asked him, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven?" Jesus
response was immediate and simple:
"He called a child, set him in front of them, and said, ‘I tell
you this: unless you turn round and become like children, you
will never enter the kingdom of Heaven. Let a man humble
himself till he is like this child, and he will be the greatest in
the kingdom of Heaven. Whoever receives one such child in
my name receives me." Matthew 18: 2- 5
Christ Church is dedicated to the spiritual formation of the youngest among us,
principally through Sunday school and the atrium and children's worship in
Children's Chapel.
The Sunday School: (through June 3, 2007, re-starting on August 26, 2007)
At the present time Christ Church has two Sunday school programs in place.
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for 3, 4, and 5 year olds and a first grade
class. A Montessori based approach, the program will add a second atrium next
year, Level II, for 2 and 3rd grade. When complete, three levels will exist:
level 1 for 3 to 5 year olds; level 2 for 6 to 8 year olds; level 3 for 9 to 12 year
olds.
During this transition period, the Faithweavers program is in place for the
remaining ages although all children will receive Catechesis lessons and work.
Children's Chapel:
Principally for children ages 3 to 6, the chapel service is held in the Level I
atrium during the 9:00 service. The children leave the service after the first
reading and return during the peace. During this time the children pray, sing,
and listen to stories.
In addition to the Sunday school and Children's Chapel,
the church also
includes the children in festival celebrations:
Family Advent wreath making
The Christmas pageant
St. Nicholas's visit and dinner
Burying the alleluia at the beginning of Lent
The Liturgy of the Light after Easter
Pentecost
The Vestry member who works with the Children’s Formation is Carol Innes.
All parishioners are encouraged to become involved in the formation of the
spiritual life of our children. They are our most valuable resource, and as we
pledge to do during each Baptismal service, they need our support and nurture
as a church family to give them the foundation they need to navigate this
increasingly difficult world we have given them.
Call to volunteer your time!
